Who We Are

Most importantly, The Wiley Post is a locally owned, independent news organization built by Bartlesville journalists.

Our team has seen firsthand what has happened to local journalism. Newsrooms were hollowed out. Reporters stretched thin. Fewer resources for stories that matter to communities. Across the country, towns like Bartlesville are losing the very institutions meant to hold power accountable and preserve the public record.

We believe local journalism should answer to the community it serves — not to leadership chasing pageviews or advertisers deciding headlines. We believe in fewer stories done better. We believe the job of a newsroom is to build a lasting record of a place — something worth reading 50 years from now.

The Wiley Post exists to return news to local hands and local voices. We are committed to serving Bartlesville with independence, accountability and integrity. We will ask hard questions. We will follow stories wherever they lead. Striving to push the conversation forward.

Why “The Wiley Post”?

We chose the name because it is rooted in our history. Recognizable. A little unorthodox. And mainly, no one else was using it.

Wiley Post flew around the world twice. He proved that someone from Oklahoma could reshape global aviation. His legacy is one of grit, curiosity and refusal to accept limits.

We also aim to be persistent, scrappy and unafraid.

Like Post, we believe small-town Oklahoma can do great things. And we believe any town in America can produce journalism that resonates far beyond its borders.

What We’re Building

We are building a sustainable, independent newsroom for Oklahoma, born in Bartlesville.

That means:

  • Investigative reporting that holds institutions accountable

  • Writing with voice, clarity and purpose

  • Storytelling that preserves our history

  • Coverage rooted in what matters to the community

  • Reporting that explains not just what happened, but why it happened

  • Stories pursued with patience, persistence and passion

  • A forum for community voices about community issues

When we hit publish, it's because it matters.
