Reporting and sourcing

Our news stories are based on original reporting, documents, interviews, public records and direct observation. We work to verify information before publication and provide appropriate context so readers can understand not only what happened, but why it matters.

The Wiley Post identifies sources whenever possible. Anonymous sources are used only when the information is newsworthy, cannot reasonably be obtained on the record and the source has a legitimate reason for requesting anonymity. Our journalists must know the identity of anonymous sources and work to independently verify the information they provide.

News and opinion

We distinguish news reporting from opinion. News stories are based on reporting and evidence. Opinion pieces reflect the views of the writer and do not control or influence our news coverage.

Opinion content is clearly labeled so readers can identify it. Labels may include Opinion, Editorial, Column or Guest Opinion.

The same commitment to factual accuracy applies to opinion content. If an opinion piece contains a factual error, The Wiley Post will review and correct it when appropriate.

Corrections

When we make an error, we correct it as clearly and quickly as possible. Corrections may appear within the story, at the top or bottom of the article, or in an editor's note, depending on the nature of the change.

We may update stories as additional information becomes available. When an update materially changes or clarifies previously published information, we will make that clear to readers when appropriate.

Independence and conflicts of interest

The Wiley Post is owned by The Wiley Post, LLC. Editorial decisions are made independently and are not controlled by advertisers, donors, public officials or outside organizations.

Our journalists should disclose significant personal, financial or professional conflicts that could reasonably call the independence of their reporting into question. Journalists should avoid assignments where a conflict cannot be appropriately managed.

Advertising, sponsorships and financial support do not give outside parties control over our reporting or editorial decisions. Sponsored or paid content will be clearly identified.
