Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Wiley Post is an independent, locally owned news organization based in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

We’re built by local journalists who believe community news should be written by people who are connected to our community and Oklahoma.

We focus on stories that matter here — not stories written to chase clicks somewhere else.

  • Because it sounded cool and no one was using it.

Also, because Wiley Post was an Oklahoma pioneer who proved someone from a small place could do big things.

    That felt fitting.

  • As often as we have stories worth publishing.

We’re not trying to flood your feed.

We’d rather publish fewer stories that matter than chase quantity for the sake of traffic.

You can sign up for a weekly newsletter called The Postmark to stay up to date.

  • Not right now.

A print newspaper is expensive and takes a lot more infrastructure.

To do it right, we’d need:

    • More staff

    • Ad sales support

    • Design/layout help

    • Printing and distribution partners

    We have ideas.

We’d love to do it someday.

For now, we’re focused on building a strong digital newsroom first.

But it’s definitely on the table.

  • Wow, you sound like my mother.

First of all, this is Website 1.0.

Secondly, I’m a reporter. Not a web designer.

Website 2.0 is already being worked on behind the scenes and gets updated whenever I have the time and energy.

Right now, the priority is getting stories published.

The bells and whistles can come later.

  • You’re full of questions today.

That’s kind of our thing too.

Right now, the best ways to support us are simple:

    • Read and share our stories

    • Tell your friends about us

    • Send us story tips and ideas

    • Sign up for our newsletter

    • Encourage local businesses to advertise with us

This entire thing runs on community support.
And yes… right now I’m personally paying for all of it because apparently this seemed like a good idea at the time.

  • Soon.

We’re working on setting up one-time and monthly donation options for readers who want to help cover our costs.

Hosting, software, records requests, equipment and countless behind-the-scenes expenses add up quickly.

If you’d like to support independent local journalism financially, that option is coming.

  • Soon. Maybe. Not sure.

We’re working on advertising options for local businesses that want to support independent journalism and reach local readers.

    But money comes with influence.

If interested, contact us, and we’ll keep you updated.

Wait, how much money are we talking about here? Is it like a lot a lot?

    Text me.

  • Please do.

Some of the best stories start with a tip from a reader.

If you know about something happening in town, see something we should investigate or think there’s a story being missed, reach out.

The more details you can provide, the better.

Photos, documents, dates, names and background information can help us move faster.

We’re volunteers right now, so anything you can do to help a story move along helps.

  • Very soon.

We want community voices represented here.

Once we are ready and you have an opinion on a local issue or want to respond to something happening in town, we will have instructions here.

  • You’re a nosey one making it all the way down here.
