Boden Roberts earns Wiley Post Player of the Week after a standout performance

Big-time players make big-time plays, and Bartlesville senior Boden Roberts did a little bit of everything last Friday night.

Roberts made his presence felt on both sides of the football, helping lead the Bruins to a 44-34 victory over Sand Springs, the defending Class 6A-II state champions.

For his all-around performance, Roberts earns our Player of the Week honors.

A breakout night on offense

Roberts was one of quarterback Michael Kent's top targets, hauling in five receptions for 112 yards and two touchdowns.

He averaged an impressive 22.4 yards per catch, including a 42-yard reception, giving the Bruins a dangerous big-play threat in the passing game.

The performance marked a major offensive breakthrough for Roberts. His 112 receiving yards more than doubled his season total entering the contest, while his two touchdown catches were his first and second of the year.

And if two touchdown catches weren't enough, Roberts also contributed a two-point conversion.

But Roberts wasn't finished making an impact when Bartlesville's offense left the field.

One of the state's top pass rushers

On defense, Roberts continued to make life difficult for the Sandites.

He finished with four tackles, including two solo stops, two tackles for loss and two sacks. He also came away with an interception, adding another highlight to an already impressive night.

His defensive performance was no one-game fluke.

Roberts ranks among Oklahoma's top eight players in sacks and holds the No. 1 spot in Class 6A-II, establishing himself as one of the state's most productive pass rushers.

Stepping up when it mattered

Roberts' performance stood out with his ability to step up wherever the Bruins needed him.

Whether he stretched the field as a receiver, got into the backfield as a pass rusher, or created a turnover in the secondary, Roberts found ways to influence the game.

But his impact isn't limited to the plays he makes himself. Roberts is often one of the first Bruins to rush over and congratulate a teammate after a touchdown or big play, bringing the same energy to celebrating others' success as he does to creating his own.

Against a Sand Springs program coming off a Class 6A-II state championship, those contributions helped Bartlesville secure a significant victory and improve to 4-2 on the season.

For Roberts, Friday's performance showcased the complete package: a breakout offensive showing paired with the defensive production that has made him one of Oklahoma's top sack leaders.

And for the Bruins, having a player capable of changing the game on either side of the ball is a valuable weapon as they push deeper into district play.

Roberts made plays everywhere, earning him this week's Wiley Post Player of the Week.
