Josh Waddell’s robots officially took over Lyon Gallery on July 1, and plenty of people showed up to meet them.
More than 100 people packed into the gallery for the opening night of "Rise of the Robots," Waddell’s first solo exhibition. With a DJ, food and a room full of people chatting, laughing and pointing out all the strange little details tucked into each sculpture, the night was the place to be.
Waddell is an assemblage artist who builds one-of-a-kind robots and sculptures from rescued, donated and discarded objects. Old technology, worn metal, broken parts and everyday junk all find new life in his hands.
The result is weird, nostalgic, joyful and full of personality. Every robot has its own look, its own attitude and its own little history hiding in the parts.
